Single Fly Screens in Dubai

A single fly screen is a retractable screen that pulls across from one side and rolls neatly away when you're done. You choose which way it opens, left to right or right to left, and it works on both doors and windows. It's the everyday favourite for normal-width openings.

  • Retractable mesh that rolls into a slim side cassette
  • Opens one way, and you pick the side to suit your room
  • Fits doors and windows up to about 5 metres wide
  • Tape-fitted with no drilling, Italian mesh, 5-year frame

How a Single Screen Works

One cassette, one smooth pull across

A single screen keeps things simple. The mesh lives on one side and pulls across the opening only when you want it, then disappears when you don't. Here's what that means day to day.

Retractable mesh

The mesh sits in a slim cassette on one side and pulls across when you need it. Let it go and a soft brake rolls it back on its own. See the wider retractable range.

One-way opening

It opens from one side to the other, not both. That's what single means, and it's all most doors and windows ever need.

You choose the side

Tell us which way you'd like it to open, left to right or right to left, and we set the cassette on the side that suits your handle and your room.

Doors and windows

The same single system works on a patio door, a front door or a window. We size the cassette and mesh to suit each door or window.

Smooth, quiet glide

A guided track and a soft brake mean the mesh glides across and back without slamming, so it's easy for anyone in the house to use.

No drilling

The cassette and track go on with strong tape, so there are no holes in your frame and nothing to repair if you take it off later.

Single or Double

Which one does your opening need?

The only real choice is how wide your opening is. A single screen covers most doors and windows. A double screen is for very wide spans. Here's the difference in plain terms.

Single screen

One cassette on one side, with the mesh pulling across to latch on the far side. It suits standard doors and windows up to about 5 metres wide, and you pick which way it opens. It's neater and more affordable, which is why most homes go single.

Double screen

Two cassettes, one on each side, with two mesh halves that meet in the middle. This is made for very wide openings up to about 12 metres, like a full glass wall or a wide terrace, where a single pull would be too far. Both halves draw in from the sides.

Both are types of retractable fly screen, so they roll away the same way. We measure your opening and tell you which one it needs, with no upsell.

Best Used On

Where single screens work best

A single screen fits almost anywhere you walk through or open often. These are the spots we fit them most around Dubai homes.

Front and patio doors

The classic single-screen job. Pull it across in the evening, walk through when you need to, and roll it away by day.

Kitchen and side doors

A door you're in and out of all day works well with a single screen set to open to the side your hand naturally reaches.

Bedroom and living room windows

Open the window for air and pull the screen across. By day it sits hidden in its cassette, out of the view.

Sliding doors

On a sliding door a single screen runs alongside on its own track. For that style, see our sliding door screens.

Study and home-office windows

Keep the window open for fresh air while you work, without flies landing on the desk or the screen.

Balcony access doors

The single door out to a balcony or yard is a natural fit. Pull across for the evening and walk straight through when you need to.

Single Screen Guide

Everything to know about single fly screens

Honest, practical answers to the questions we hear most on single-screen jobs. Tap any section to open it.

A single screen has one cassette fixed to one side of the opening. Inside it is a roll of mesh on a sprung barrel. When you want the screen, you take the leading edge and pull it across the opening until it latches against a slim track on the far side. The mesh is now covering the door or window.

When you're done, you release the catch and a soft brake guides the mesh back into the cassette at a steady pace, so it never snaps shut. There's a track top and bottom that keeps the mesh straight and stops it billowing in a breeze. It's a simple, proven design, which is part of why a single screen is so easy to live with.

It comes down to width. A single screen pulls across in one go and works up to about 5 metres wide, which covers nearly every normal door and window. It uses one cassette, looks neat and costs less, so it's the right call for most homes.

A double screen has two cassettes, one on each side, and two mesh halves that meet in the middle. You'd choose it for a very wide opening, up to about 12 metres, such as a full glass wall onto a garden, where a single pull would be too far to reach and the mesh too long to stay tidy. Both are retractable fly screens and roll away the same way. If you're not sure, we measure the opening and tell you which one fits, without pushing you to the dearer option.

Because a single screen opens one way, you get to decide which side the cassette sits on and which way the mesh pulls. It's worth a moment's thought, because the right choice makes the screen feel natural every time you use it.

We usually match the opening side to where your door handle is, so your hand falls on the screen edge as you reach for the door. We also look at how you walk through, where furniture or a sofa sits near a window, and which side gets the sun. There's no extra cost either way, it's simply set when we make the screen. We talk it through at the measurement and confirm the side before anything is cut, so you end up with a screen that opens the way you actually move.

The single design works for both, with the size and weight matched to the opening. A door version is taller and built to be pulled across at full height, often the main screen for a patio or garden door. A window version is smaller and lighter, easy to pull with one hand while you reach to open the glass.

On a window we usually set the cassette to one side at sill height, so the mesh draws across the part that opens. On a door it runs floor to head. Either way you get the same clear view when it's rolled away. If you're screening several windows at once, our fly screens for windows page covers the other styles too, so we can mix and match across the home.

The frame and cassette do the moving, but the mesh does the real job. We use fine fibreglass and polyester see-through mesh that lets air and light through while stopping mosquitoes, flies and dust. Mosquitoes are more than a nuisance in warm climates, and the World Health Organization's guidance on dengue explains why keeping them out matters.

Colour is the main choice. Charcoal, grey and black mesh almost vanish against the daylight and give the clearest view, which is why most people pick a darker shade. If you have a cat or a busy household, ask about a tougher mesh that takes more of a push. We bring samples to the measurement so you can see the difference before you decide.

A single screen needs only a little care to keep it gliding. The main thing is to keep the bottom track free of grit and sand, because that's what a smooth pull depends on. A quick brush or a wipe along the track now and then is usually all it takes, and a vacuum nozzle clears anything stubborn.

Let the mesh return gently rather than letting go from across the opening, and it will last for years. Wipe the mesh and the cassette with a soft cloth and mild soapy water when they gather dust, more often near a building site or a busy road. There's nothing to oil and nothing to adjust, and if the glide ever feels off we'll come and sort it under the warranty.

A single screen works up to about 5 metres wide on one pull and up to around 6 metres tall, which suits almost every door and window in a normal home. Past that width, the mesh on a single pull gets long enough that a double screen, meeting in the middle, holds its shape better and is easier to use.

For a run that's wider still, we can split it into more than one screen so each one stays an easy size. We work all of this out at the measurement, looking at the width, the height and how you use the opening, then recommend a single, a double, or a split. The aim is a screen that glides nicely for years, not one that's stretched beyond what the design is happy with.

A single retractable screen is the all-rounder, good for most doors and windows because it rolls fully away for a clear view. A sliding screen stays as a panel on its own track, which some people prefer on a wide sliding door. A magnetic screen is a light, removable mesh that snaps shut, handy and cheap for a rented door.

A fixed screen is different again, a permanent mesh panel with no moving parts, which is the cheapest option but only for a window you keep shut. So the simple rule is this: if you walk through or open it often, a single retractable screen is usually the best balance of clear view, easy use and price. If you never open it, a fixed panel will do. We'll give you a straight recommendation at the measurement.

Single Screen FAQs

Common questions about single fly screens

Quick answers to what people ask before booking a free measurement in Dubai.

A single fly screen is a retractable screen with one cassette on one side. The mesh pulls across the opening and latches on the far side, then rolls back into the cassette when you let it go. It's called single because it opens one way, from one side to the other, rather than meeting in the middle. It keeps out insects that can carry illness, which the World Health Organization covers in its notes on vector-borne diseases. It works on both doors and windows, and you choose which side it opens from.

A single screen has one cassette and the mesh pulls across from one side. It suits standard doors and windows up to about 5 metres wide. A double screen has two cassettes, one on each side, and two mesh halves that meet in the middle, which is made for very wide openings up to about 12 metres. Most homes need a single screen, and we fit a double only when the opening is too wide for one pull.

Yes. You tell us which way you'd like it to open, left to right or right to left, and we set the cassette on that side. We usually match it to where your door handle is, how you walk through, and where any furniture sits, so the screen feels natural to use. We confirm the side with you at the measurement before anything is made.

Yes. The same single system is made to fit a patio door, a front door or a window. We size the cassette and the mesh to the opening, so a window gets a smaller, lighter version and a door gets a taller one. The way it works is the same, you pull it across when you want it and it rolls away when you don't.

No. The cassette and track are fitted with strong double-sided tape, so there's no drilling, no holes and no damage to your door, window or wall. It keeps the finish clean and works well in rented homes. If you ever remove the screen, the surface is left as it was.

A single screen works up to about 5 metres wide on one pull, and up to about 6 metres tall. For anything wider we suggest a double screen, where two halves meet in the middle, or we split the run into panels. We check the size at the free measurement and tell you which option suits your opening.

A single window screen starts from AED 400 and a single door screen from AED 700. The final price depends on the size and the system, and very wide openings or double screens are quoted separately. All prices are plus 5 percent VAT, and the free measurement gives you an exact quote with no obligation.
